Hey guys, so I decided to join y'all on this blog thing, advance apologies for the grammar, etc in English, I'm still working on it :)
For my first post I thought I would share a little about what it's been like for me to become a "Canadian", since I'm married to one,(what can you do???).
So I am a true Mexican from head to toe, (sometimes more that I would like to admit, but proud to say it anyway) however, due to the circumstances in my country and with family I moved to Canada in October 2008, right after I finished high school, (which is a whole other story that I might get to later).
My father had been living here for a year or so before we could get here and my mom, like a good traditional Mexican wife, worked so hard to get us all together again, even though we had to leave one of my sisters back in Mexico. It was a pretty exciting thing to do, I mean not everybody gets to move to a whole different country with your family and see what it's like there.
I have to admit though it was tough, and sometimes still is, to adapt your culture and language and learn to shop for groceries and ask directions all over again, seriously I thought that I wasn't gonna have to learn all those things once I was 5 pero no es cierto (that's Spanish for "but that's not true").
It was a humility lesson I had to learn first to be able to do something for myself, I spent the first 6 months watching "super why" and not knowing what was being said, which was really frustrating since I had to be the translator for almost the whole family every time we went out for anything.
Anyway, I got over that until I was able to watch TV and sometimes laugh at the jokes, (not all of 'em), but I became comfortable with the language to the point that I started to look for a job, quite scary for a high school girl without experience or even having taken an English certification test to qualify for anything. Another four months passed I believe, and then my prince charming came into the picture, as you all know we met at a Spanish dance on February 14th 2009, by then I had had my heart broken so I didn't really get excited about him right away, plus when I saw him the first time (which was my second day in Canada at a Halloween dance) I thought to myself that he was off-limits and he would never even notice me, so to me the picture didn't look that promising, but I just like to dance so I said yes when he asked me, and we danced ONCE!!
After that we didn't really talk until June, I believe, and facebook was responsible for the rest, haha! Oh, and Institute too. We dated for like 7 months, and we got engaged. We were married a year to the day after we started dating officially. Things looked really good for me, and so far they still are, but I still struggle with the fact that I can't go to school yet, or be a real Canadian, like all of you are. But I will never regret coming up here and having the chance to prove myself worthy of the new family that has been so great to me, in fact more that I could ask for.
I think that if it wasn't for you guys I wouldn't be what I am today. I still struggle through things but now I have more family to help me bear the load of it, hahahahaha...........
Anyway, that's all for now, hope you like it.
